Herbal Perfume for Women
Musk, sandalwood, oakmoss, and patchouli bring out an earthy and sensuous mixture in an evocative scent for any woman.
To every 2 teaspoons of base oil ( 1 teaspoon vodka and 1 teaspoon jojoba oil)

Anti-Aging
Mix with 30mls of Almond oil
3 drops Frankinscence
3 drops Neroli
1 drop Lavender
3 drops Rose
Massage into face and neck morning and night. It has certainly made a difference to my complexion. It evens out blemishes and has refines some fine lines.
Aphrodite's Bath Melts
2 oz grated cocoa butter
2 oz baking soda
3 Tbsp of powdered oatmeal (optional)
1 oz citric acid
4 drops of Patchouli
4 drops Ylang Ylang
2 drops sandalwood
Mix baking soda, oatmeal & citric acid together . Set aside.
Melt cocoa butter in microwave or "bain-marie". Add essential oils. Add dry ingredients to melted cocoa butter.
Pour in ice cube trays or soap moulds. Place in freezer for 30 minutes.
Store in jars or plastic bags. Keep cool
To use, place 1-2 cubes (if using ice cube tray) to 1/2 filled tub.
Tip: Before pouring mixture into moulds, i like to sprinkle some dried herbs at the bottom. I like to use rosebus, whole rosehips or rose petals to decorate each melt.
Banana Hair Mask
For very dry or damaged hair.
1 banana
2-3 dollops of mayonaisse
1tbls.olive oil
Put banana in blender and puree until completely smooth. (You don't want clumps of banana in your hair.) Then add mayo and oil and blend until smooth and creamy. Apply to hair. Let sit for 15-30 minutes. Rinse with warm water and shampoo as usual.
Bath Bombs
1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup citric acid
1/8 cup epsom salts (optional)
*witch hazel in a spray bottle
various essential oils & dried herbs
Sift all dry ingredients in a glass bowl.
Add essential oils (about 10-20 drops per recipe - *see below for blends*)
Spray 3 times with witch hazel and mix well. Keep spraying the mix until it clumps when you squeeze it in your hands, but make sure it is not wet.
Add dried herbs if using. Press firmly into moulds (ice cube trays, soap moulds...) Let sit one minute in mould,
then carefully take them out and place on wax paper. If your house/appartment is humid, remember to place a clean
tea towel over the bombs and place under a fan. This will prevent the bombs from activating. Let dry 24-48 hours.

Bath salts
A relaxing bath that also makes your skin feel great.
1 cup epsom salts
10 drops lavender oil

Bedtime Soap Bar
7 oz White Melt and Pour Soap Base
1 dropper Chamomile Extract
3 drops Lavender Essential Oil
1 T Lanolin Oil
.5 t Jojoba Oil
Chop soap base into small chunks and melt in microwave at 15 second intervals. Swirl soap to move melted chunks and return to the microwave. Repeat for one minute or until the soap is melted, but NOT bubbly. Allow the soap to cool for 1 minute and slowly fold in remaining ingredients (except chamomile blend leaves) until well blended. Cool and allow the soap to thicken slightly to suspend the herbal blend ... it will float. Ladel soap in to one 3 oz and one 4 oz soap molds. Allow to harden 2 hours and move to the freezer for 30 minutes. Pop out and bring to room temperature. Move to a plastic container or bags to maintain fragrance. This soap makes a wonderful "just before bedtime" tubby after a stressful or "fussy" day.
Belly Bar or Lotion
1 1/2 oz beeswax (if making lotion omit the beeswax)
2oz shea butter
2oz cocoa butter
2 oz sweet almond oil
2 oz grapeseed oil
2 oz olive oil
1 oz jojoba oil
1 oz Emu oil
1 t. vitamin E
1 T ground lavender
1 T ground chamomile
1 T ground calendula
I melted the beeswax, shea, and cocoa butter til melted. I added the ground herbs and stired, stired, stired. When it was well blended. I added all the other oils and the vitamin E. I stired until it was cool and then added 60 drops lavender EO. It sat for about an hour until real cool and it set up kinda solid. (I could probably have done without the beeswax). I put it in the micro and added 2 more oz of grapeseed oil. That was just enough to make it a nice liquid. It is dark green, but when you apply it the color disappears.

15%Extra Virgin Hemp Seed Oil
72% Distilled Water
Fragrance Oil (Vanilla Cream mixes well with the nutty smell of the Hemp Oil)
I heat everything except the Germaben II, together in a stainless steel pan on the Stove. When it is all melted together (be careful not to loose a lot of the water as steam) I take it off the stove and use a hand blender to make sure it is emulsified. Add the Germaben II and mix again. I like to sit the pan in a sink of cold water so it cools quickly. I usually mix one more time when it is just about cool adding the Fragrance Oil (use your nose as your guide). I spoon this into sterilized pots.
We have found this to be a very nourishing cream, and have used it all over our body, including our faces. I have used it on a new baby (without the fragrance oil), and it has taken away the rash they get in the first few weeks of life. We have also used it on Chicken Pox, dry itchy skin etc. Hope it works well for you too.

This filled 20 lip balm tubes.

Herbal Acne Pads
You will need:
The Queen of Hungary's Water (recipe below)
Large wide mouth mason glass jars
100 ml dark glass salve jar
Cotton cosmetic pads (the thin circles)
It can be carried in a salve jar filled with thin cotton face pads and
placed in a school locker or work desk for easy access.
It does not need to be refrigerated and will preserve itself forever.
Rosemary Gladstar, says this water was the very first herbal product to be mass produced and marketed and was probably formulated by the early gypsies.
Although my herbal acne pads are excellent for treating acne and
speeding up the healing process, one must keep in mind that they work
only externally to help rid the body of acne.
If you truly want to prevent acne breakout then an internal program consisting
of a well balanced diet rich in chromium, essential fatty acids, B-complex
vitamins and zinc along with blood/liver cleansing herbs like Burdock
root, Red Clover and Milk Thistle will help prevent breakouts altogether
and help maintain healthy skin.
Consult a licensed health care provider for help in selecting quality vitamins
and herbs at the proper dosages for your specific condition.

Honey Pot Lip Balm
2 tsp. olive oil
1/2 tsp. beeswax
1/2 tsp. cocoa butter
1/2 tsp. honey
3 drops essential oil of orange
1 vitamin E capsule
Measure oil, beeswax and cocoa butter into a glass or enamel pan. Melt over low heat. A hotplate works well and reduces the risk of overheating the oils. I use a small glass jar to store my lip balm in so I just mix all the ingredients right in that jar then place it in a pan of water to melt the waxes.
Stir the mixture often until the wax is melted. Remove from heat and stir in the honey and essential oil. Pinch open the vitamin E capsule and squeeze the contents into the mixture. Stir well. Pour the mixture into containers. Label after it has solidified. If you want your honey to be dispersed throughout the lip balm you will need to stir it as it is solidifying.
Variations:
Choose any essential oil that appeals to you. Tea Tree oil is good for cold sores and chapped lips.
Make your lip balm using an herbal oil in place of the olive oil. Melissa (lemon balm) and Calendula are two of many herbs that can add healing and soothing properties. Alkanet will make red lip balm. Start with one tablespoon to 1/2 cup oil. After heat extraction, check the color. If it is not dark enough for you add more Alkanet and go through the heat extraction process again. Your lip balm will turn out several shades lighter than the color of your oil.

Lavender Soap
I created this soap for my new baby. It has become one of our favorites. I used Ostrich Oil, but you could use Emu Oil instead.
175 grams Canola Oil
150 grams Lard
125 grams Coconut Oil
50 grams Ostrich Oil
Calendula Petals
5-10 grams Lavender Essential Oil
188 milliliters distilled water
70 grams lye
Basic Soapmaking Instructions
While wearing safety goggles and neoprene gloves, combine solid lye and liquid, stir well. Set aside and allow to cool (100° F to 125° F). This is best done outside while you are standing upwind.
Combine oils and heat gently. Once the fats and oils are melted allow the temperature to drop to 100° F to 125° F.
Combine lye solution and melted oils. Be careful not to splash while combining the mixtures. Stir until the mixture traces. (Tracing looks like a slightly thickened custard, not instant pudding but a cooked custard. It will support a drop, or your stir marks for several seconds) Once tracing occurs I add the Calendula Petals and the Lavender Essential Oil, and pour raw soap into a prepared molds. (a small box lined with a white plastic garbage bag works well) I cover my soap in the molds with Seran Wrap to prevent soda ash. I then place the soap in my oven with the light on until it goes through the gel stage. Take the soap out of the oven and let it cool down. After 24-48 hours I remove the soap from the mold and cut it
into bars and set the bars out to cure and dry. This will allow the bar to firm and finish saponification. Place the bars on something that will allow them to breathe. You should wait 3-6 weeks before using the soap.

Loofa Soap Slices
This is a great gift idea!
1 clean large frozen juice concentrate can
1 loofa sponge
Glycerine soap bar(s), in colour(s) desired
Cut the loofa sponge to fit to within 1/4 inch of the top of the can. Depending upon the size of the sponge, you may be able to fill more than one can.
Melt soap over very low heat or in a glass dish in the microwave. Meanwhile, put the loofa into the can. Let soap cool down, but do not let it harden. Pour cooled melted soap into the can. When the soap has hardened and dried, tear away the can, then slice the loofa soap into thin slices for individual gifts or personal use.

Making your own perfumes
Making your own perfumes: The strength of your aromatic liquid
depends upon the ratio of essential oil to water and alcohol. There
are several different types of aromatic blends (depending on
strength) and personal preferences. The following is a BASIC recipe
for the different types. Basically perfume is the strongest
formulation and should comprise of 15 to 30 percent of essential oil
with the remaining 70 to 85 percent alcohol and remaining 5 to 10
percent water. The essential oils should be used neat, that is to say
they shouldn't be diluted in vegetable oils or anything else. Perfume
always contains a percentage of water, even if this is as little as 5
percent of the whole and you should use distilled water or plain,
bottled spring water. Ideally, the alcohol should be pure
pharmaceutical. Kitchen perfumes should therefore use vodka—the
higher the proof the better. Brandy is another alternative, but it
does have a strong smell which can ruin a delicate combination of
aromas or one that has a low concentration of essential oil.
NOTE: try to use brown bottles as clear ones allow a perfumes number
one enemy in (the sun). You may also want to use a notebook to write
down your formulations, in drops, of essential oils that you use when
making your concentrate. It also helps to know the form that all
perfume making follows, and this is like a musical form of base
notes, middle and top notes, with a fixative or bridging elements
between them.
PERFUME: 15 - 30% essential oil, 90 - 95% alcohol with 5 - 10% water.
EAU DE PERFUME: 8 - 15% essential oil, 80 - 90% alcohol with 10 - 20%
water.
EAU DE TOILETTE: 4 - 8% essential oil, 80 - 90% alcohol with 10 - 20%
water.
EAU DE COLOGNE: 3 - 5% essential oil, 70% alcohol with 30% water.
SPLASH COLOGNE: 1 - 3% essential oil, 80% alcohol with 20% water.
When making a perfume, first establish your base note, or combination
of base notes, then your middle note or notes, then the top notes.
Often the same essential oil will be used as a middle or top note.
Add your essential oil concentrate to the alcohol and water base in a
large bottle. Swirl the mixture around gently until it is well
diffused and leave it for at least four to six weeks before pouring
through a paper coffee filter and bottling. Sit down and let your
imagination play to conjure up aromatic images of vitality and
complexity and interaction. It could be that you have in mind an
Alpine mountain in spring, or an English garden in summer, or an
autumnal aromatic scene, or perhaps, something more exotic, a
Balinese flower festival, a Caribbean night, or an Eastern delight.
The choice is entirely yours, and with the vast array of essential
oils any aromatic image is possible.
FEMININE OILS BASE NOTES: Here is the list of base notes for feminine
perfumes or colognes. As you can see, these are usually roots, gums,
or resins: balsam de tolu—balsam de peru—benzoin—cedarwood—cinnamon --
frankincense—guaiacwood—helitrope—labdanum—meliot—myrrh— oakmoss—
olibanum—opoponax—patchouli—sandalwood—styrax—tonka bean—vanilla—
vetiver.
next we have the oils which are found in either base or middle notes;
they could make good bridges between the two - depending upon your
overall formula, of course.
FEMININE OILS BASE OR MIDDLE NOTES: cedarwood—cinnamon—frankincense—
helitrope—myrrh—patchouli—sandalwood—styrax—vetiver.
FEMININE OILS MIDDLE NOTES: carnation—cassia—clary-sage—clove bud --
geranium—ginger—hyacinth—jasmine—jonquil—lemongrass— linden—marjoram—
nutmeg—orchid—oriental rose—palma rosa— pimeto berry—pine needle—pine
needle—rosa centifolia—rose— rosewood—thyme—tuberose—mimosa—narciccus—
neroli—violet flower—ylang-ylang.
FEMININE OILS MIDDLE OR TOP NOTES: bay—cassis—clary-sage—hyacinth --
marjoram—mimosa—neroli—nutmeg—palma rosa—rosewood—thyme.
top notes are the most volatile—that is to say, they evaporate the
most quickly and are, therefore, the ones you smell first of all.
They gradually evaporate and leave the middle notes which eventually
fade and reveal the base notes. You could think of the whole process
as a love affair: the top notes represent the excitement of love at
first sight, the middle notes (or heart notes as they are known in
the perfume trade) grow on the heart, and the basic notes make it a
long-lasting affair. One reverses this order when actually making the
perfume, so that the top notes are your final flourish, so to speak.
Use several essences, or just one, from each list to formulate your
own perfume - and, we hope, love affair!
FEMININE OILS TOP NOTES: angelica—anise—armoise—basil—bergamot --
cardamom—chammomile—coriander—coriander—cumin—estragon— galbanum—
juniper berry—lavender—lemon—lime—mandarin— marigold—neroli—
pettigraine—spearmint—tagetes.
Here are some of the components of the base, middle, and top notes of
some popular perfumes to give you an idea of what makes that most
mysterious of product, a perfume, a success:
BASE NOTES: vetiver—sandalwood—benzoin—vanilla—balsam de peru— balsam
de tolu. Chamade by Guerlain. In perfumer's terms this would be
called a "sweet balsamic" note.
MIDDLE NOTES: jasmine—rose maroc—ylang-ylang—orris root— carnation—
tuberose. Femme by Rochas. A "sweet, floral, spicy" note.
jasmine—narcissus—jonquil—rose—carnation—tiberose. Mink and Pearls by
Jovan. A "narcotic, floral" note.
rosewood—rose—jasmine—carnation—cinnamon—ylang-ylang— ginger. Royal
Secret by Monteil. An "exotic, floral" note.
TOP NOTES: lemon—bergamot—mandarin—rosewood. Shalimar by Guerlain.
A "citrusy, fresh" note.
bergamot—lemon—mandarin—neroli. Bal de Versailles by Despres.
